Franklin Edward ''F. E.'' Collier

Franklin Edward ''F. E.'' Collier, 75, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Wake Medical Center.

F. E. was a native of Halifax County, the son of the late Sydney Wilson Collier and Clifford Brewer Collier. F. E. was a graduate of the Newport News Shipyard apprentice school and was a U.S. Army veteran. He served as a deacon at East 10th Street Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Clarke Collier.

F. E. is survived by two sons, Mike Collier and his wife, Bea, and Tommie Collier and his wife, Kim, all of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren, Jessica C. Ricks and her husband, Stephen, of Cary, Rachel Collier and Jackson Collier, both of Roanoke Rapids; three step-grandchildren, Ken Crawford of Roanoke Rapids, Willie Ancarrow III and his wife, Nicole, of Apex, and Shaunte A. Wells and her husband, Chris, of Florence, KY; and two step great-grandchildren, Brittney Crawford and Ivy Wells.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 3, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 4, at 1:00 p.m. at East 10th Street Church of Christ in Roanoke Rapids with Minister Dave Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Collier’s service to his country.
